For undergraduate students the operating theatre constitutes an important and unique
educational experience. Despite this, traditional ‘in theatre’ surgical training is
not without problems. The environment naturally limits the number of students who
may safely or usefully attend at any one time. Furthermore, feedback suggests that
many students find the surgical environment particularly intimidating and are reluctant
to ask questions as a consequence.
