A strategy for assessing otoplasty outcome intra-operatively

      The goals of otoplasty in the correction of protruding ears were initially described by McDowell in 1968 and advocated objective measurements of ear protrusion and symmetry.

      Current practice, however, often focuses upon the subjective assessment of both the patient and the surgeon when assessing the pre-operative deformity and post-operative outcome. We propose a simple strategy to assist the surgeon in assessing ear symmetry and the reduction in pinna projection that can be used intra-operatively.
