A novel method for sterile intra-operative iPad use

      Across surgical specialities there is frequently a need to refer to radiological images intra-operatively. Most modern operating theatres are equipped with digital viewing stations, which can be used for this purpose. Their disadvantage is that the surgeon may have to move away from the operative field. Furthermore, the surgeon cannot directly access the workstation. Circulating theatre staff are frequently not trained or familiar with the varieties of imaging software used. We describe a technique for sterile, intra-operative iPad use. This can be used by the surgeon to view and manipulate radiological images directly whilst not compromising the sterile operative field.
